Sandy Mathewson – Bass/Vocals

Sandy is the man who is one third (along with Greg Mundy and John Mathwin) of the rhythmic engine room of The Ides Of March. His bass lines make sure that the repertoire is performed like a well oiled machine.

Over a career spanning more than 50 years playing with such bands as…

  • Fahrenheit 451
  • Buffalo Drive
  • Alison Gross (pre Mississippi and Little River Band)
  • The Boogiemen (he was founder of this seminal Adelaide blues outfit and steered the ship for 14 years)

Sandy has made his mark in the bottom end of many great songs and with The Ides Of March he will continue that tradition.

He also has an immeasurable knowledge in all things audio working as a Senior Engineer at the ABC Collinswood for many years recording the likes of…

  • John Farnham
  • Cleo Laine
  • Kate Ceberano
  • Dame Kiri Te Kanawa
  • Yehudi Menuhin
  • Elton John
  • Adelaide Symphony Orchestra

In addition, Sandy has worked as a session player for hire in many studios around Adelaide as well as running his own recording studio for a time winning awards for his songwriting and composing talents.

Heck, he’s even toured for a while with the Doobie Brothers whilst in the US (OMGWTF!). In essence… What Sandy hasn’t done in the music industry isn’t worth doing unless it’s with The Ides Of March.
